In the context of a changing funding environment and the realisation that it was time for a different type of organisation, the CHET Board decided in October 2018 that CHET, after 22 years of being an independent trust, should explore a different type of organisational form, one that would connect its work more closely to an established university research center. The obvious choice was the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology ( CREST ) which hosts the DSTNRF Centre of Excellence in Scientometrics and Science, Technology and Innovation Policy ( SciSTIP ) at Stellenbosch University. CHET was a founding member of SciSTIP in 2013. CHET will continue its higher education research and policy advocacy activities within SciSTIP by leading its Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Research Group. Current projects within the Research Group include (1) developing indicators on the health of South Africas university system, (2) South Africa’s continued position as a hub
